A place to learn about
rocks, minerals, and
creating art with them.

A place to
make new
friends

A place to
relax and
become creative
Have you ever wondered about the rocks and pebbles that you see
scattered while strolling on the beach
?
How did this little pebble or giant rock get here? How old can it be?  What is
i
ts' history? Is it a fossil?  Or a precious gem?
How many wonders and what kind of beauty is hidden under the
weathered outer layer???

For all these questions and many others, the answer might be
found at the MRLC
Basic lapidary skills can be learned at the MLRLC. Cutting, grinding and polishing stones into  shape to use as jewelry
components can be very creative.
Shaping a rough and weathered stone into a beautiful sculpture of a bird or fish or whatever you feel like creating can be very
fulfilling.
Learning to use diamond and different various tools is very helpful to complete a project quickly. Everything can be found at our
club and is available to all club members.
And of course the help to complete your project to your satisfaction.
Short classes to safety procedures and skills are frequently offered.
Come join us, we are looking forward to meeting you.

stone carving
Stone carving is an ancient activity,
transforming a rough natural stone into a
shape.
Controlling the removal of undesired
material is o
ne particular way of
producing sculptures.
A
n additional method is modelling with
clay or other materials, then casting.
silversmithing
Silversmithing is the generic term for
working with silver  to make jewellery or
other items.
Because silver, and similar metals like
copper and gold, are so malleable, t
here
are different ways to work with
it,
including cutting, forming, soldering,
riveting, casting and squeezing.
The choices and preferences vary with
every silversmith.
stone polishing
A cabochon is a gemstone  which
has be
en shaped and polished,
usually with a convex top and a flat
back and most
often cut in a rounded
oval.
faceting
Facets are flat faces that make a
geometric shape.
Cutting a gemstone with facets
so that
the stone sparkles with internally
reflected light
is very precise work.
Transparent or translucent gem stones
are normally used.
